Badger State Industries has an exciting and rewarding opportunity for an experienced Product Design Engineer. In this position you will design and develop new products and product improvements, work with teams to create new product proposals, and provide product line engineering support from initiation through manufacturing. Our engineers work with highly motivated inmates in Wisconsin correctional facilities to design and manufacture products, and provide services for agencies and University of Wisconsin campuses statewide. In addition to product design work you will share your knowledge with our inmate employees, helping them to build their skills and experience so they can find and retain jobs when they return to the community. The Bureau of Correctional Enterprises provides inmates with the opportunity to learn general and trade specific work skills, and to gain actual work experience and employment in our engineering and manufacturing facilities located across the state.

The Department of Corrections is hiring two Product and Services Development Specialists for our Design Center team. These positions are located at the Department of Corrections Central Office at 3099 East Washington Avenue in Madison, Wisconsin.

Position Summary :
These positions work as part of the Design Center team; assisting with market research, conceptualization, development, engineering, sourcing, pricing and manufacturing of new and improved products and services for the Bureau of Correctional Enterprises.

Along with working as part of the design team, you will teach inmate workers how to use CADD software, hand and power tools, computer numerical control (CNC) machinery and help bring new/improved products to market.

Special Notes :
Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application. The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting. The DOC may conduct pre-employment drug screen. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency to employment. Applicants who fail or refuse the drug screen will not be given further consideration for employment.

Qualifications :
A qualified candidate will have:
•Training and /or experience in AutoCAD and Solidworks software to design and create new or improved products
•Experience in machining and metal fabrication and woodworking tools.
